A Study on the Packet Drop Function for RED
نویسنده
چکیده
In this study we explore the packet drop function in the RED algorithm. Specifically we explore issues involving effective maximum drop probability functions. The main criterion was queue size behavior, but other metrics such as throughput and delays were also considered. Preliminary results suggest that an adaptively changing packet drop functions make RED more effective. Finally suggestions for the packet drop algorithm and the insights gained are discussed.

A framework to determine bounds of maximum loss rate parameter of RED queue for next generation routers
Random early detection (RED) is expected to eliminate global synchronization by random active packet drop. Its packet drop probability is decided by the maximum packet drop probability in its drop function, buffer thresholds, and average queue length. It has been observed that for a large number of connections, a small value of the maximum packet drop probability may not eliminate global synchr...
متن کاملTHE STUDY OF PACKET LOSS EFFECT ON NETWORK CONTROL SYSTEM ERROR FUNCTION MODEL
Modern control systems widely use network to decrease the implementation cost and also increase the performance. Although they have several advantages, they suffer from some limitations and deficiencies. Packet loss is one of the main limitations which affect the control system in different conditions and finally can lead to system instability. To prevent such problems it is important to model ...
متن کاملRED Theory for QoS Provisioning in Wireless Communications
In this paper, we study the performance limit of a wireless communication system over a fading channel. The system under study consists of 1) a finite-buffer discrete-time queueing system on the link layer, and 2) a rate-adaptive channel coding system on the physical layer. The objective of this paper is to analyze the relationship among data rate (R), packet error probability (E), and delay bo...

We address the deployment of Random Early Detection (RED) on class-based queues (CBQs) with shared buffer by deriving novel RED algorithms for the complete sharing and sharing with minimum allocation schemes and comparing their performance with RED under complete partitioning that is equivalent to using a dedicated buffer for each CBQ. In our novel RED algorithms, packet drop decision is based ...
متن کاملDesigninga Neuro-Sliding Mode Controller for Networked Control Systems with Packet Dropout
This paper addresses control design in networked control system by considering stochastic packet dropouts in the forward path of the control loop. The packet dropouts are modelled by mutually independent stochastic variables satisfying Bernoulli binary distribution. A sliding mode controller is utilized to overcome the adverse influences of stochastic packet dropouts in networked control system...
